As a child of the city and grandchild of immigrants, it's not my heritage, but I empathize. There is no way to get the 1920s OR 1950s back, when all the other large nations were devastated by war, and we had all this industry and healthy youth and plundered land. (Both wars). But all the Make America Great on both sides seems to think that those were the norm and everything else is wrong and unreal. But we can't go home again, and the immigrants are maybe more OK about that?
