i can't believe it's not canon!

The official Stargate magazine published a short fic piece of fiction on Sheppard's black mark that goes pretty much like you'd think it would. The prose is a little pedestrian, but the John voice is pretty credible, and you might like to read it. Happily, fans have arranged that for you.

In a nutshell, however, here are the relevant character details:

1. John, in spite of the black mark, is heroic and not an insubordinate asshole. I know, you're shocked.
2. John is also TOTALLY HETEROSEXUAL on account of how he has an ex-girlfriend and everything!
3. You know how fans are always waffling on whether John's father that he doesn't contact in Letters from Pegasus is A) a dick who doesn't want to hear from his son or B) dead? It's C) all of the above.

Of course, how canonical you want to view fanfic from the Official Stargate Magazine is up to you.

OMG, I NEED MY DISC OF HIVE NOW NOW NOW! Damn you, US Mail! Also, I need a transcript of Epiphany, because from what I've seen so far? Oh, man, am I gonna be all over that ep for the Alpha Centauri series. Hell, yes.

Well, I always enjoy reading the military-themed stories because I know so little about it; it helps cement the characters in my head, the more access I have to those little details. So it wasn't a total waste of time for me.
