dS fic: Ghosti (F/.K)

Ghosti
due South, Fraser/Kowalski
120k
Summary: Ever wonder what would have happened if they'd taken their transfers after "Mountie on the Bounty"?

This isn't exactly a new story -- I wrote it in 2001 for the zine Duet -- but this is the first time it's ever appeared on the internets, on account of the fact I'd lost the disc version and had to retype the whole damn thing by hand.

synaesthesia is a reason to love :-)

well, it's weird to feedback a four year old story (esp. on LJ), but since i hadn't read it before and since it truly is amazing, i think i need to leave a comment anyway :-)

every character was pitch perfect, and i loved the random anecdotes and references, many of which were as confusing to us as they were to the characters initially, and the style that mimicked the sparseness and vastness of the environment...

thank you for a wonderful story!!!

It is worth every moment you spent re-typing it, because now you can share it with THE WORLD!

Oh, it is my very favorite of yours!

Thank you so much for letting us at it online!

"Is that how you like it, huh, Fraser? A little tiny bit of feeling something real every few years, like getting a tetanus shot, and then you're vaccinated against the human race for a little while longer? Easy come, easy go -- it was nice knowing you, but not too nice, God forbid. Hey, if I can figure out a way not to leave any fingerprints behind when I go, can I be the goddamn love of your life, too?"

Wow! And omg OUCH! And wow, I loved this story. The Ray-Ray interaction was perfect and brittle/abrasive and oh, perfect (Ray Vecchio's sense of humor (which had a lot in common with the wind in Rankin Inlet) -- oh, yeah!), and then Ray and Fraser, and Ray and Fraser, and omg Ray and Canada! Polly inviting them for Christmas, yay!

The fight at the end scoured me down to the bone, and bleached me white, and broke everything into little pieces and then put it back together. Forgive my incoherence. This was awesome.

Thank you! I'm always intrigued by Fraser's lack of personal connection to anyone in his life -- including in some ways his partners -- and I seem to keep writing stories where somebody (okay, it's always Kowalski *g*) won't let him get away with that anymore. I suppose it's my own little fan wish-fulfillment. Glad you liked the story!
