Whereas the really interesting story, I think, is to have them be what I think they are, which is two guys with almost no life experiences or assumptions in common who can't help respecting each other more the more they start to chip through the "oh, I know who he is, he's one of those guys" stereotypes. The thing that saddens me about this fandom is that, in spite of the huge volume of McShep fic, it's hard for me to find stories that don't strip them of their interesting friction and jagged edges and compatibility problems. That's what I *like* about their interaction, and I'm MORE than willing to see it dealt with alongside a proposed sexual investment in each other. Hell, bring *those* stories on!
