You know, at first I was reading this and thinking it was funny how much it had in common with the reactions I posted (http://linabean.livejournal.com/39681.html#cutid3) back when this first aired--but then I went back and read 'em, and I was surprised to see how little I actually commented on the crappy ways the show's writers try to set up stories. Pretty sad how much I take that for granted!
Also, ooh, I was so glad to see your takes on team love and Rodney/Ronon and all that. I am now actually prepared to rewatch this episode, for the sake of seeing the Rodney/Ronon bit you mention, since I don't really recall it. Also, excellent:
I like to imagine Ronon and Teyla hanging out together after this episode, having a beer and being all like, "Was your husband being a complete asshat all through this whole thing? Mine, too!" That's the kind of thing I like to imagine
You are not the only one [g]
Also, somehow it *does* seem perfect that John would be into "winning" the same way Olympic figure skaters are. Yes, it's competitive, and you do want that shiny medal, but what it's all *about* is the artistry in how you prove your skill and dress up in pretty outfits! And, uh, yeah, I guess about seeing how well you can apply your love of Mad Max to it--I think you must be completely right on that point as well. Oh, John.
