So I haven't had any strong hopes for next fall's "Moonlight," because, let's face it, most vampire stuff is totally lame, and on network tv, you won't even get to be distracted by sex and violence. Also, the upfronts were allegedly awful. Hence, no doubt, the mad dashes to recast.

Welcome, tv's newest vampire, Jason "Still a Scientologist, Unfortunately" Dohring! AKA, Logan "Only the Fourth-Most-Toxic Echolls" Echolls from the late, lamented Veronica Mars. And welcome, tv's newest blonde vampire love interest, Sophia "British or Not British?" Myles, better known to you as the Girl in the Fireplace.

Dear Vampire Detective from Moonlight: Are you awesome? I don't know yet. Are you more awesome than the Tenth Doctor? You are not, through no fault of your own, but due to basic laws of physics. Also, is it cool that Jason Dohring is your Methos now, and not that old guy from Eastern Europe somewhere, or is it just silly pandering toward a more coveted CW-style demographic? The Shadow knows.

Dear David Greenwalt: Were you totally hired to save this tanking show? Does that make you feel like your talents are valued, or mostly just like you've been thrown to the lions? Whatever, you'll always be the guy who wrote "School Hard" to me. Of course, the awesomeness of that episode might have been what confused me for so long into thinking that surely Spike was correspondingly awesome, even after he became not only no longer awesome, but barely even Spike, or certainly not any kind of Spike that resembled the dude from "School Hard." So...I hate you, maybe? But good luck anyhow.
