I like the actress well enough, too -- I spent a lot of time in s1 talking about how scary I found her! She could have been *terrifying* in these dreams, but I just don't think they had a solid grip on how they wanted to deploy Kate, or how Allison would actually remember and respond to her. It's like all the pieces were there, and nothing really cohered out of it.
I don't mind Lydia being the damsel in distress at times -- she's one of the Breakable Ones, and it's dumb to expect her to be able to handle everything that all the others can. It just seemed like she was the wrong pick for a scene that basically hinged on "Lydia can't do anything but Stiles can because he's SMART." She's smart, too! You made a *huge deal* out of how smart she is! No take-backsies!
