hth: (Hth the 2nd)
After much, much practical & existential stress yesterday, I finally finished my job application for the one I really want. Now, thank god, I can get back to the things that really matter in life -- recapping and fanfic, yis.

They required my GPA to be broken down year-by-year, which was kind of an entertaining exercise for me. I went through this whole gruesome depression thing in 1996 where I was only occasionally getting out of bed at all, let alone going to class, so my grades for three years of college go: 3.84, 3.3, 1.78 -- then there was kind of an abortive attempt at a fourth year, when I took three classes and failed them all. Obviously I remember all of this, but it's still totally weird to see it all typed out. How often do you get actual numerical values assigned to just how fucked up you were when you were twenty?

Things I Have to Get Done This Weekend:
1. two poems for my creative writing class
2. a paper on Yeats for 20th c. British Poetry
3. laundry
4. Grove meeting in Atlanta tomorrow

Things I Really Should Get Done This Weekend:
1. clean something. Almost anything would be an improvement.
2. accomplish something on my Midsummer Night's Dream paper
3. grocery shopping

Things I Want to Get Done This Weekend:
1. Coup d'Etat commentary
2. last week's Long Goodbye commentary
3. Olympics-based ficlet that I plotted while working at the Taste of Torino special event at work
4. finish those s1 Veronica Mars DVDs

Things I Am Also Trying to Juggle, Although They Will In No Way Be Finished in Two Days:
1. my We Invented the Remix assignment
2. fucked-up disaster story wherein I destroy the better part of the Pegasus Galaxy
3. psychotically long multiple-pairing Teyla-centric gen story

Speaking of the Olympics, is it bad that I kind of want to write an AU where the Atlantis characters are Olympic athletes? Think about it -- John could be a speed skater, Ronon and Teyla could be figure skaters, Rodney could, um... I don't know. What could Rodney do?

Cruel, cruel Canadian judge. Or possibly a coach.

Judge!

"What a fabulous display! The strength in Dex's arms, that's really unbelievable, Jim."
"Oh, I know, Kathy. I think the Pegasans are really closing in on their first gold. Did you see the way Teyla stuck that landing?"
"Oh, here are the scores... From the Czech judge, 5.9... American, 5.8... Japanese, 6.0! And another 6.0 from the German judge. And the Canadian judge gives them... 3.9!?"
"That's the Canadian judge, Rodney McKay. Highest score he's given anyone yet, though."
"Well, that's really going to knock them back."

(Yes, yes, I know this isn't actually how they judge it any more, but it's more fun.)

Hmm, true. His legs are too skinny for speed-skating -- those guys (and girls) have giant thighs. But the real question is: halfpipe, slalom, or cross?

Hi, sorry to invade your journal. I was recommended your fic Daughters of Jerusalem, and it was just.. one of the most beautiful things I've read in a long time--really, masterful. I wanted to ask if you wouldn't mind my maybe sketching some art to accompany it. If not just let me know--either way, lovely story :)

It's not invading at all -- nice to meet you! I'm glad you liked Jerusalem, and I think it would be fabulous to see what you come up with to illustrate it. Looking forward to it!
