Joss Whedon, one of those tv producers who doesn't hate his own fans, recently posted his 25 favorite tv characters on a thread at Whedonesque -- a characteristically quirky combo of long-forgotten bit players (that girl who replaced Linda Hamilton on Beauty & the Beast for a month before it was cancelled), old-school classics (dude from The Prisoner), and big-name fan darlings (Josh Lyman, Logan Echolls).

[Be a meme sheep! 25 best characters you ever watched on tv -- go!]

However, I'm not a Whedonesque member, so I couldn't call him out on this:

4) Belzer from Hill Street Blues. Guy could not partner with anyone who didn't die. The actor, the wannabe hero, the 'tard, the nice lady -- they were all meat for the Belzergrinder.

By which I believe he meant *Belker* from Hill Street Blues. (Not to be confused with a certain wiseass cop played by a man named Belzer on Homicide:LOTS, who also had a tendency to bid his partners farewell. Although some of them just moved to France, or Missing Persons.)

Hey, it's a nitpick. But for one shining moment in my life, this is me, schooling Joss Whedon on the subject of television.

It's allllll downhill from this moment, y'all.

(Also, dig my icon, which was made by the friendly and talented [livejournal.com profile] beautiful_rain_ and inspired by my very own "Daughters of Jerusalem." Yes, it's Inara's line in the story, and yes, she knew that and also made an Inara icon with the same quote, but I like River, and I picked this one instead.)

Hmmm. Given that I don't watch a lot of TV, this was a tough one. Basically, if you took the entire title-sequence casts of The West Wing, Battlestar Galactica, the New Doctor Who (9 & 10), Firefly, and due South, you'd have every show where I was ever fannish about the source, in roughly order of priority. That's, um, about 25 people. Add Cathy Rogers from Junkyard Wars (as herself!) if you need an extra.

I shouldn't even bother to answer these sorts of memes, I'm so boring.

hee! I'm actually a member of whedonesque, and I did twig when I read Belzer -- I adored H:LotS back in the day, but never saw Hill Street Blues so there was a moment of "whuh?" -- but then quickly forgot it in a glee of 'OMG Joss is so awesome!!' and other muffled noises of happiness. I just take an inordinate amount of joy from this list, just from the esoteric nature of so many of the choices and evidence of how much television Joss has watched: a fricken' lots.

hello, excuse me, but did you happen to make this icon?

Image

I found it a while ago and noted you down as the creator, but now I wasn't so sure anymore and wanted to check.

thanks a lot, yours
centim

No! I usually credit icon-makers in the icon's comment-space, but I have a few older ones that I transfered over from another computer and have lost the name somehow. I should probably put a ? in that space or something, just so people aren't too confused. I personally can't do anything graphic at all.

And if you do find out who made it, please let me know! It's been my default icon forever, so I probably owe an extra thank-you to the creator, as well as credit.
